Rebecca Weiner Tompkins

TomkpinsRebecca Weiner Tompkins was ordained Deacon in 2009. She has been at Saint Mary’s since 2002 serving at the altar, teaching Christian Education programs and Sunday School, and coordinating the relationship with the barrio parish of San Juan Evangelista, Villanueva, Tegucigalpa, Honduras.  

She is an English professor at Borough of Manhattan Community College, CUNY, specializing in writing, poetry, and the short story.  Her poems have been published in assorted journals, and she is the recipient of grants and awards for her literary work.  One of her regular activities is playing and recording acoustic and electric violin/with various groups, including Patti Smith and Life in a Blender.  

Having lived in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Seattle, Boston, and Searsport, Maine, she has spent the last twenty plus years in Greenwich Village where she raised her children, Emery and Mara and an assortment of rescued dogs.
