Guilds at Saint Mary's
A number of volunteer guilds make Saint Mary's what it is, and a great way to experience community life at Saint Mary's is to join a guild! If you are interested in joining a guild, please speak to one of the priests.
The Saint Andrew's Guild: It was Andrew who made the introduction between Jesus and the boy who had extra loaves and fishes. This guild works as a team to spread the good new about what God is doing at Saint Mary's, greets newcomers and helps new members become involved in the life of the parish. Often, members of the guild can be spotted in a crowd because of the blue or red ribbons that they wear.
The Brother Lawrence Guild: Brother Lawrence was a lay Carmelite brother in the 17th century, famous for writing 'Practicing the Presence of God.' The Brother Lawrence Guild practices the presence of God by offering hospitality, coordinating coffee hours, and organizes special receptions.
The Saint Raphael's Guild: In the Book of Tobit, Saint Raphael is the angel who helps Tobias find his way. At Saint Mary's, the Saint Raphael's Guild is the group of volunteers to serve as ushers, helping people to find their way.
The Saint Vincent's Guild: Named for Saint Vincent of Saragossa (a 4th century deacon and martyr) whose feast day coincided with the founding of the St. Vincent's Guild at the Church of the Advent, Boston, the Saint Vincent's Guild serves at the altar during Mass, Weddings, Funerals, Evensong and Bendiction.
The Saint Bede's Guild: Saint Bede, an 8th century English monk, priest and scholar, is sometimes known as the patron saint of lectors. Saint Bede's Guild is made up of the many volunteers who read the lessons at Mass at Saint Mary's.
The Saint Mary's Guild: The Saint Mary's Guild assists in the care of vestments and altar linens and assists in the polishing, care and refurbishment of vessels used for worship.
The Saint Francis de Sales Guild: Francis de Sales was the bishop of Geneva in the 17th century. We ask his pardon as we appropriate his name as a pun on the sales and operation of the parish gift shop. This guild operates and volunteers in the gift shop.
The Saint Cecilia's Guild: Saint Cecilia was a Christian martyr of the 3rd Century. It is said that during her wedding celebration, the musicians played but Cecilia sang in her heart to God alone. Since the Middle Ages she has been known as a Patron Saint of the arts and music. The Saint Cecilia's Guild at Saint Mary's is made up not only of those who support our music program financially. It is also made up of volunteers who help with music mailings, contribute time to the music library, and help by ushering and volunteering at concerts and receptions for visiting choirs.
