Saint Mary's Singers - Our Volunteer Choir

What happened to the Saint Mary’s Singers?

The Saint Mary’s Singers, the church’s volunteer choir, was formed in January of 2007 as a result of a large number of parishioners and friends who showed an interest in singing for services at Saint Mary's.

Originally, the choir was planned as part of an expansion of the music department which would include a third organist position, in addition to the Music Director and the Associate. The choir was to sing for the 9 AM Sung Mass on Sunday Mornings, and for other services as needed. A lack of resources prevented the full implementation of this plan, and the Saint Mary’s Singers performed as part of Solemn Evensong and Benediction on Sunday afternoons, directed by the Music Director and accompanied by the Associate Music Director.

Later in 2007, when financial times became particularly challenging, the Associate position was eliminated, and the choir was rehearsed, directed and accompanied by the Music Director, James Kennerley. After two years, it became clear that this was no longer a viable option. Unfortunately, our resources still do not permit the reinstatement of the Associate Organist position.

We will see what the future holds for the Saint Mary’s Singers, in the hope that music at Saint Mary’s will continue to grow. If you would like to know more, or discuss supporting this venture, please contact James Kennerley, Organist and Music Director.
